SUMMARY:Social Thinking by Michelle Garcia Winner
DESCRIPTION:Social Competency – More than Social Skills \nWe largely take for granted what most of us can intuitively learn to do—socially attend\, interpret\, problem solve\, and respond within different aspects of the social world quickly and efficiently across all environments\, including one’s home\, classroom\, and broader community. Rather than assign blame when a person struggles to make sense of the complexities within this world\, for more than 25 years the developmental Social Thinking® Methodology has sought to continually evolve and provide clear concepts\, strategies\, tips\, and tools to teach this abstract information explicitly to individuals who communicate differently. While originally designed for persons with autism spectrum (ASD) and ADHD\, aspects of the methodology are being adopted into mainstream\, as educators find that exposing the social code to all students enhances skills in social problem solving and conflict resolution. \nMichelle Garcia Winner\, MA\, CCC-SLP\, is the founder and CEO of Social Thinking and a globally recognized thought leader\, author\, speaker\, and social-cognitive therapist. She is dedicated to helping people of all ages develop social emotional learning\, including those with social learning differences. Michelle has created numerous evidence-based strategies\, treatment frameworks\, and curricula to help interventionists develop social competencies in those they support. Her work\, which she continually updates\, demonstrates how social competencies impact people’s broader lives\, including their ability to foster relationships and their academic and career performance. \nParticipation in this Q & A with Michelle Garcia Winner will be limited to those who attend a 3-hour online training (viewed at your convenience) prior to the March 4th session. Free\, but registration by February 7th is required for you to access & view the training prior to March 4th.
