This month’s movie is the Animated Sci-Fi Thriller “Ghost in the Shell” from 1995 starring Atsuko Tanaka/Mimi Woods (Japanese/English) as Matoko Kusanagi and Akio Ōtsuka/Richard Epcar (Japanese/English) as Batou.

How would one describe this movie? A brilliant Sci-Fi Thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat to the very end.

What exactly is the plot of the movie? It is the year 2029. Technology has advanced so far that cyborgs are commonplace. In addition, human brains can connect to the internet directly. Major Motoko Kusanagi is an officer in Section 9, an elite, secretive police division that deals with special operations, including counter terrorism and cyber crime. She is currently on the trail of the Puppet Master, a cyber criminal who hacks into the brains of cyborgs in order to obtain information and to commit other crimes.

Runtime: 83 minutes (1 hour and 23 minutes)

Rating: 14A (Violence, Coarse Language, Brief Nudity)

Fun Fact: The director, Mamoru Oshii, was so obsessed with realistic movement in every frame, especially the shooting scenes in the movie that he took the production to Guam to shoot guns into different materials to see how they reacted.

Personal Feelings: This film holds a special place in my heart as I saw it before watching Blade Runner and it gave me a deep love for Sci-Fi stories that pushed boundaries and really made you think.
